We are happy to announce that the Palavicini lab has received a new refrigerator and incubator from Dr. Roger Shi! Roger's lab and biotech company moved to Irvine, CA and in the process generously donated equipment to the Palavicini lab. Thank you to Drs. - Ananya graduates from the Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program 🥳
Ananya and Charlie during the poster session at the MSTAR consortium Congratulations to Ananya Gupta for graduating from the Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program! To end the program, Ananya presented at the annual MSTAR consortium and gave both an oral and a poster presentation about her project titled "Accumulation of Extravasated IgG in Neurons of Aged Mice after Stroke, Independent of Tauopathy." Ananya has been such a hardworking addition to the Palavicini lab, and we are so proud of her completion of the MSTAR summer program. Congratulations, Ananya! Macie is a first-year PhD student in the IBMS program (neuroscience discipline) at UT Health San Antonio. As a PhD student, Macie is completing a rotation in the Palavicini lab during the Fall 2026 semester. In the lab, Macie's research will focus on the association between granulin, microglia, and amyloid plaques. Welcome to the lab, Macie!

William is a first-year PhD student in the IBMS program (biology of aging discipline) at UT Health San Antonio. As a PhD student, William is completing a rotation in the Palavicini lab during the Fall 2026 semester. In the lab, William's research will focus on the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonism on healthspan and lifespan. Welcome to the lab, William!

The Palavicini lab The Palavicini lab celebrated a productive summer full of research and hard work with a potluck party! This party also served as a formal goodbye to our summer interns and a thank you for their contributions to the lab. The lab enjoyed a delicious spread of food and played a heated game of "Dead Man's Party: A Knives Out Game"! Everyone had an amazing time and enjoyed the opportunity to de-stress from deadlines with our fellow labmates. The meals and desserts at the summer potluck party, yum!! 😋

Dr. Palavicini introducing himself during his presentation The Alzheimer's Association chose Dr. Palavicini to be the guest speaker for a private event named "An Evening to Support Alzheimer's Research"! During this event, Dr. Palavicini raised awareness among laypeople about the latest advances in Alzheimer's research and the work being done in his lab to advance the initiative to cure Alzheimer's. - Jude graduates from the Summer Physiology Undergraduate Researcher (SPUR) Program 🥳
Jude and Dr. Palavicini at the SPUR symposium Congratulations to Jude Aden for graduating from the Summer Physiology Undergraduate Researcher (SPUR) Program! Through SPUR, Jude has been an invaluable addition to the Palavicini lab this summer. To end the program, Jude presented at the annual SPUR symposium and gave an informative oral presentation about his project titled "Glial Activation States Following Systemic Inflammatory Challenge in PLC-G2 Mice." We are beyond proud of Jude's completion of this internship, especially after seeing the effort he's consistently put into his project. Congratulations, Jude!

Dr. Palavicini presenting his research poster Dr. Palavicini recently attended the annual American Aging Association (AGE) meeting in Provo, Utah. At this meeting, Dr. Palavicini presented a research poster titled "Beyond Longer Life: Does Mitoglitazone's Sex-Dependent Lifespan Extension Translate Into Improved Healthspan?" Dr. Palavicini also volunteered as a poster judge. Charlie getting settled into her new cubicle! We are excited to welcome Charlie Sconiers into our lab! Charlie is a recent graduate of Howard University and will be in the Palavicini lab for two years as a post-baccalaureate trainee. Charlie's primary project focuses on chronic jet lag and how environmental stressors may contribute to Alzheimer's disease. After this post-baccalaureate program, Charlie hopes to earn a PhD to pursue a research career in academia.

Max presenting his research poster Max recently represented the Palavicini lab at the Systems Aging Gordon Research Conference (GRC) in Newry, Maine. The GRC Max attended focused on the "Complexities of Aging Across Species, Evolution, Reproduction, Human Longevity and Frailty". At this conference, Max presented his research in the Palavicini lab with a poster titled "Intermittent Inhibition of Ceramide Synthesis Improves Metabolic Health and Reduces Early Mortality in Mice Fed a Western Diet". Ananya will be in the Palavicini lab throughout this summer as an intern. Ananya's research will focus on the intersection of tau biology in aging MAPT-GR mice and microglial activity after ischemic stroke. Welcome to the lab, Ananya!
